Why can you only have one hometown on Facebook?

Postby weldon » Sun Mar 20, 2011 8:37 pm

I have lived in many places that I'd like to put as my hometown... I was born in Chicago, IL and lived there until I was 4 so I put this as my hometown. BUT I lived in Los Angeles, CA for most of my childhood through the elementary school years and Omaha, NE during high school so I have many friends from those areas also.

Why can't you put more than one hometown? You can put more than one high school so it doesn't make sense how you can't have more hometowns. It would really help for finding friends, etc.

Based on the definition of a hometown:

An individual’s place of birth, childhood home, or place of main residence

...there will only be one place to name.

It is unfortunate, I'm a military brat myself so I never lived in in any location for more than 4 years, with an average of 3 years per place. Instead of having multiple hometowns (which I doubt Facebook would change), may I suggest you join the "networks" for the places you have lived?

Your hometown is the city that you call home. The city where you grew up. The city where you were a child. You only get to be a child once.
